I began my bodywork education with Pilates teacher training in 2005 and was instantly enthralled with its approach to mindfully controlled movement achieved through quiet and graceful strength. This is where I first learned how important breath and intention of activity are for the execution of quality movement, strength conditioning, and rehabilitation to re-pattern the body.
My interest in movement arts continued and led me to open my business Dynamic Balance in 2007, where I began working as a professional fitness instructor, and through which I taught various strength conditioning, Pilates, dance and ballet barre fitness classes, the latter in particular is special to me after years of training as a recreational ballet dancer.
My exploration of the limitless potential and abilities of the body continued and I began endurance training in triathlon, duathlon and long distance running. Curiosity and the necessity of nutritional education to maintain my physical output led me to acquire a nutrition certificate from Cornell University in 2015. This gave me a greater understanding of how the systems of the body interact with each other, and how to support the body in recovery in order to perform optimally and efficiently.
It was through my endurance training that I began to understand on a deeper level how integral proper breathing is to the body. Learning how breath assists the body in cadence, concentration, moderation of output, preservation of energy, and fueling of activity led to another discovery: the role breath plays in bringing peace and meditative calm. This sparked a new interest in mindfulness and drew me to pursuing healing arts, where I completed various energy work certifications.
After deciding my skills would be best applied in the realm of professional healthcare, I pursued my Massage Therapy diploma at the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in Cambridge, ON and graduated in 2018 and am a member in good standing with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontatrio (CMTO). This education opened up another aspect of the body to me, and I was able to start seeing and feeling how a body initiates, performs, rests, and responds to activity through its various systems interacting.
My inherently curious nature continued to draw me towards further knowledge and understanding of the body, and so I began my education in a 5 year program at the Canadian College of Osteopathy in Toronto, ON in 2018. Through personal development and exploration in my own healing journey, I immersed myself in learning about trauma through literature published by Psychologists, Psychotherapists, Neuroscientists, and various authors within the topic. This ultimately led me to my area of research in Trauma and Trauma-Informed Care, where I was able to lead a qualitative study investigating The Current Attitudes Related to Trauma-Informed Care Within the Osteopathic Community in Canada, and I was pleased to present my reserach to an international jury in October 2023 and become a member in good standing with the Ontario Association of Osteopathic Manual Practitioners (OAO) in December 2023. The successful completion of my studies awarded me with a Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice (D.O.M.P.) and a Diploma in Science of Osteopathy for my research contribution (D.Sc.O.). I look forward to working with you to discover the roots of discrepancy and support the body as we invite it to return to its natural state of Dynamic Balance.
