Osteopathic Manual Therapy is a gentle hands-on approach to treatment adressing the interaction of all systems of the body and considering the interrelationships and influence of each structure and its function.
Treatments can include a variety of techniques including Craniosacral, Strain/Counterstrain, Functional Emergency, Myofascial Release, Neurovascular, Joint Mobilization, Visceral, Hormonal, Lymphatic, Scar Mobilization, and more. Appropriate techniques are selected based on the presention of each client and used to help support return to optimal health, including reduction of acute and chronic pain symptoms, regulate the nervous system, support better sleep, promote recovery, and it can also improve respiration, digestion, circulation, balance, as well as increase range of motion. This treatment style is highly compatible with other therapy modalities and training programs.
OMT treatments are recommended for everybody! Indivuduals experiencing limited or restricted mobility, aches and pains, mood and hormonal imbalances, poor digestion, decreased quality of sleep, acute or chronic injuries have found OMT beneficial in supporting their return to health.
During a treatment it is recommended to wear non-restrictive clothing, as the client will remain clothed for the entirety of the appointment. A typical appointment begins with a dicussion of health history and primary concerns to identify therapeutic goals. A series of assessments will be performed usually in standing, seated, and laying down positions, which will help to build an indices of findings and develop the treatment plan following a methodology. Clients report a sense of stillness and relaxation throughout the treatment, which will include gentle hands-on techniques and integration.
Benefits of treatment may include feelings of deep restoration, rejuvenation, improved posture, a decrease in pain perception and an increase in mobility and flexibility, along with many additional benefits throughout all systems of the body. It can be helpful to consider committing to 1-3 sessions for optimal results, and ongoing as needed for general maintenance, injury prevention, rehabilitative recovery, and to maintain balance and harmony within the systems overall.
